Description:
• A wing compass, also known as a divider, is a precision measuring tool used to draw circles and arcs, and to divide lines into equal segments.
• It consists of two hinged legs, each with a sharp point at one end and a thumb screw at the other end.
• The thumb screws are used to adjust the distance between the two points.
• To use a wing compass, the two legs are first adjusted to the desired distance.
• The sharp point of one leg is then placed at the center of the circle or arc that is to be drawn, and the other sharp point is placed on the paper or other material where the circle or arc is to be drawn.
• The compass is then rotated around the center point, and the other sharp point will draw the circle or arc.
• Wing compasses can also be used to divide lines into equal segments.
• To do this, the two legs of the compass are first adjusted to the desired length of the segment.
• The sharp point of one leg is then placed at one end of the line, and the other sharp point is placed on the line at the desired location of the first segment.
• The compass is then rotated around the first sharp point, and the other sharp point will mark the end of the first segment.
• The process is then repeated to mark the ends of the remaining segments.
